January, 1834 - On account of the inclemency of the wether was but few & on Sunday the Church sat and Wm. D. Cate requested a letter of dismission & granted - done in Church Conference - E. Cate, Clk. February 8th, 1834 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the former reference respecting appointment of deacons & the Church has made choice of Bro. Samuel Newman and Michael Cate at the present but lays it over till next meeting for confirmation - 2nd. - Rec'd a letter from the Hopewell Church McMinn County which contained Letty Benton recantation and after hearing it the Church restores her to fellowship again and grants her a letter of Dismission that she may join the above named Church - 3rd. - Rec'd Rebecca Kelley by letter. March 8th, 1834 - Done in Church Conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - appoints Br. Langston Moderator - as our former Moderator was not present. - 2nd. - took up reference of last meeting concerning the appointment of Deacons - Br. Newman feels not willing to submit and wishes it to be laid over till next meeting to which the Church still makes the choice of Br. M. Cate as deacon and his ordination put off. Done in Church Conference. E. Cate, Clk. April 11th, 1834 - The Church met and after Worship Rec'd Margaret Mount by experience. April 12th, 1834 - day the Church met and after divine Service took up the reference concerning the appointment of Br. Newman as deacon and he submits the matter to (p.109) the following of the Church and his appointment was confirmed and the ordination put off both till the 4th Saturday in July next - 2nd - Rec'd Robert Kelly by Experience. Done in Church Conference. E. Cate, Clk. May 11th, 1834 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Rec'd George Campbell and Elenor Campbell by Expr. - 2nd. - Elizabeth Douglass Requested a letter of dismission and granted - done in Church conference. E. Cate, Clk. June, 1834 - Nothing done in Church Conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. July 12th, 1834 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up a charge against Br. William Ellis for holding forth from the Stand at this place an idea that the Saints united in God through Christ may forsake the ways of God & finally be lost. - 2nd. - Rec'd Br. Ellises answer which is in substance - when I say I am willing to lay down this doctrine which is in the above charge I do not mean that I will preach its opposite, my meaning is that I will not prech either, and the matter laid over till next meeting - 3rd. - Anna Henry requests a letter of dismission and granted - done in Church conference - Elisha Cate, Clk. August 9th, 1834 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek & after divine Service proceeded to take up the reference of last meeting concerning Br. Ellis circumstances of advancing doctrine which was not agreeable with the Church & Br. Ellis agrees to lay down the Gift until next meeting (p.110) hereupon the Church agrees to bear with him - 2nd. - Ordered by the Church that the Clerk prepare a letter for the next Association - 3rd. - the Church appoints Obd. Gibbs, Elijah Cate & David Bettis as delligates to the Association - done in Church Association. Elisha Cate, Clk. September 12th, 1834 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek & after divine Service chose Br. Grant Moderator on account of Br. Kimbrough's absence - 2nd. - the Clerk's letter to the Association read and rec'd - 3rd. - a charge taken up against Sist. Sinthey Kelly for being pregnant with an illigitimate child for which the Church excludes her from her fellowship - 4th. - in like matter the Church took up a charge against Sr. Sophia Gillian for having a bastard child for which the Church excludes her from her fellowship - 5th. - Rec'd Sally Lockhart by experience - Done in Church conference - Elisha Cate, Clk. October 11th, 1834 - The Church met & after Worship took up again the matter against Br. Wm. Ellis & after some investigation on the matter the Church says that he shall not say that he shall not exercise his gift until he gets better established in the doctrine of Grace. - that is in believing and preaching the final aportioning of the Saints - 2nd - the Church excommunicates Br. Wm. Ellis for not hearing the Church in saying that he will preach not withstanding the admonition of the Church - 3rd. - Sister Sally Kelly requested a letter of dismission & granted - (p.111) 4th. - Brother Humphrey Mount Jr. requested leave of the Church to exercise his gift and granted in the bounds of the Church - 5th. - Rec'd Martha Mount by Expr. - done in Church conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. November 8, 1834 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up a grievance against Br. Jos. McFarlin for writing to the Church that if she excommunicated Br. Ellis for him to share the same fate and laid it over till next meeting. - 2nd. - The Church being informed that Sist. Elisabeth McFarlin has joined Wm. Gaskey's Church proceeds to excommuincate her from the fellowship of the Church. - 3rd. - took up a charge against Br. Newman's Fan a black woman for offering to join Wm. Gaskey's Church & suspended till Gaskey could see her Master and laid over till nest meeting - done in conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. December 13th, 1834 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up reference of last meeting concerning Br. McFarland & after some investigation the matter laid over till next meeting - 2nd. - took up the reference of last meeting concerning our Sister Fan and hearing from several of our members who had talked with her & she appeared to be sorry for her conduct - then the Church forgave her &c. - 3rd. - Ordered by the Church that the Clerk give Br. John Sellers a few lines authorizing him to exercise his gift whe on a visit per..... (p.112) and on a voyage in sum of the upper Countys - done in Chruch Conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. January, 1835 - The Church met and Br. McFarland was not present and his case laid over till next meeting - done by order of the Chruch. E. Cate, Clk. February 14th, 1835 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the reference concering Br. McFarland & he is still absent & the Church appoints Br. Michael Cate & Samuel Langston to cite him to attend our next meeting - 2nd. - appointed Br. H. Mount Sr. Assistant Clerk - done in Church conference. Elisha Cate - Clk. March 14th, 1835 - The Church met and after worship took up the matter concerning Br. McFarland & laid it over till next meeting - done in Church Conference - E. Cate, Clk. April 10th, 1835 - The Church met on fryday the ususal time of Sacrament and after worship took up the reference against Fr. McFarland & laid it over till tomorrow on account of his absence - 2nd. - took up a grievance against Rev. Willis Hammons for absenting himself from the Church without leave for the last two or three years and goying clean out of the knowledge of the Church - she therefore excommunicates her from her fellowship. Saturday, 11th April, 1835 - Met according to adjournment & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - to the ordination of Br. Samuel Newman & Michael Cate to the office of deacon of sd. Church by (p.113) the presbyter of Elam E. Rogers, D. Kimbrough and N. Cate - 2nd. - took up the reference of yesterday against Br. McFarland and he being absent the Church proceeds to excommunicate him from her fellowship for writing to the Church that if she excluded Br. Ellis to let him Shear the same fate also for neglecting to pen the Church when called on - 4th. - Rec'd Alzira Mount by experience - 5th - Br. Noah Cate requested letters of dismission for himself & wife Margaret and granted - done in Church conference. E. Cate, Clk. May, 1835 - The Church met & no business done and dismissed - E. Cate, Clk. June 13th, 1835 - The Church met - no business done & dismissed - E. Cate, Clk. July 11th, 1835 - The Church met - no business done & dismissed - E. Cate, Clk. August, 1835 - The Church met - no business on hand and dismissed. - E. Cate, Clk. September 12th, 1835 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - opened a door for the reception of members - 2nd. - Rec'd by recantation John Elder and his wife Nancy also granted them letters of dismission - 3rd. - took up the case of Br. Wm. Elder and after some discussion upon the subject agreed to give up together with a bill of charges and submit it into the hands of Boyd's Creek Church and to them to consider the matter & deal with him as they consider proper - done in Conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. (p.114) October 10th, 1835 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek and after divine Serivice proceeded to business - 1st. - as Br. Kimbrough was absent chose Bro. Langston Monderator - nothing else done - Elisha Cate - Clk. November 14th, 1835 - The Church met at Dumplin Creek & after divine Service proceeded to business. - 1st - opend a door for the reception of members - 2nd. - Rec'd Henry Vandike and his wife Lucy by experience. - 4th - Ordered by the Church that the Clerk give Br. Joseph Sullins and his wife Mary letters of dismission - 5th - also ordered that the Clerk give Susannah Putman a letter of dismission - Elisha Cate, Clk. December, 1835 - The Church met and no business on hand & dimissed - E. Cate, Clk. January, 1836 - The Church met and after divine Service organized for business - nothing done and Dismissed. E. Cate, Clk. February, 1836 - No business done and Dismissed. E. Cate, Clk. March 12th, 1836 - The Church met at Dumplin meeting house and after divine Service proceed to dismission as there was no business on hand. E. Cate, Clk. April 9th, 1836 - No business done - E. Cate, Clk. May 14th, 1836 - The Church met at Dumplin meeting House after Divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the case of Elender Jones for absenting herself from the Church without a letter of Dismission and hereupon excluded her. Done in Church Conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. (p.115) June 11th, 1836 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Br. Kimbrough being absent appointed Br. Sellers Moderator - 2nd. - opened a door for the reception of members - none offered & came to dismission - done in Church conference. Elisha Cate, Clk. July 9th, 1836 - The Church met - no business on hand - after worship Dismissed. Elisha Cate, Clk. August 13th, 1836 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business chose Elder John Lockhart Moderator - as our pasture (sic) is absent. - 2nd. - took up a greivance against Sister Polly Campbell for having an illegitimate child & proof being made as to the fact the Church prodeeds to excommunicate her from the fellowship of the Church - 3rd. - Appoints Bro. H. Mount Jr., Michael Cate & James Carmon deligates to our next Association to be held at New Salem Anderson County to commence on fryday before the first Saturday. October, 1836 - 4th - Ordered by the Church that the Clerk prepare a letter for to send to the Association and present it to the Church next meeting done in Church Conference. E. Cate, Clk. September 9th, 1836 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Br. Sellers Moderator as Br. Kimbrough is absent - 2nd. - the letter to the Association red & rec'd - 3rd. - Ordered by the Church that the Clerk give Br. Sellers license his gift wherever his lot may be cast - by order of the Church - E. Cate, Clk. (p.116) October 8th, 1836 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - minutes of the several corresponding Associations was rec'd and read - done in Church conference. E. Cate, Clk. November 12th., 1836 - The Church met and after divine Servis proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the temperance and Baptist State Convention causes or Societys and the Church declares dismission against all those who are members of those Society's - done in Church Conference - E. Cate, Clk. December 10th, 1836 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Reconsidered the proceedings of last meeting and after some investigation upon the matter laid it over till next meeting - 2nd. - Br. Moses Barnes requests a letter of dismission and granted - done in Church Conference - Elisha Cate, Clk. |
