E. Cate - Clk. (p.149) February 4th 1843 - The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business - 1st. - Ordered by the Church that Clerk give Peter Davis & his wife Elizabeth letters of dismission. E. Cate - Clk. March 4th 1843 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Rec'd Sarah Robertson by letter - 2nd. - appointed our May meeting for Sacrament and Solicate Rev. E. Moore, Joseph Manning, Wm. Bellew, Wm. Burnett & C. Tipton to attend us at that time. E. Cate - Clk. April Sessions 1843 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Rec'd Rachel Callihan by letter - 2nd. - appointed R. R. Bryan & R. H. Newman as our delegates to the next Convention to be held in Jonesborough the 1st week of August next. E. Cate - Clk. E. Cate - Clk. September 16th 1843 - The Church met and appointed Elisha Cate, Charles Elder, Thomas Cate, Jesse Langston, Michael Cate, Ahaz W. Bryan & Joseph Gaut a committee to which all private trespasses shall be refered to & sd. committee shall arrange the preaching when necessary - 2nd. - Rec'd Maliccy Chambers, Loftis Henry, Daniel L. Jones, Sarah Haggard, John Bettis, Liza T. Kimbrough & Mary Haggard by expr. & Dismissed by letter Martha Johnston, Nancy B. Newman & Wm. Rollings. E. Cate - Clk. November 4th 1843 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up a charge against Br. Eli Hudson for drinking too much or getting drunk on Ardent Spirits & using unbecoming language or blasphemy and appointed Br. H. V. Hoozer to cite him to our next meeting. E. Cate - Clk. (p.151) December 2nd 1843 - The Church met & after Worship proceeded to business - 1st. - the matter of Br. Eli Hudson layed over till next meeting - 2nd. - Ordered that the Clerk give Margaret A. Maupine a letter of dismission. E. Cate - Clk. January 1844 - The Church met and after prayer proceeded to business - 1st. - layed over Eli Hudson's case till next meeting. E. Cate - Clk. February 1844 - Owing to the enclemency of the wether the Church to meet. E. Cate - Clk. March 6th 1844 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Revived the charge against Br. Eli Hudson & appointed Br. Jesse Langston to cite him to attend our next meeting. E. Cate - Clerk. April 3rd 1844 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the reference against Br. Eli Hudson and he not being present laid over till next meeting and should he not attend the matter to be given up to the Churches Committee - 2nd. - enrold Rebbeca Kelly also Rec'd Elisha Kinbrough, Susan Henry and Martha Henry by letter. E. Cate - Clk. May 1844 - The Church met and after divine Service Br. Eli Hudson not being present, the matter given up to the Church Committee, (p.152) and returned with the following Verdict Viz. We your Committee have had the Charges against Br. Eli Hudson under concideration & feel bound to exclude him from the fellowhip of the Church on one of the charges upon his own confession for having drunk too much Spirits and not hereing the Church - E. Cate, A. W. Bryan, Joseph Gaut, Charles Elder, Jesse Langston & Thomas Cate. Whereupon the Church unanimously acquiesced in the division of the Committee - Elisha Cate - Clk. June 4th 1844 - July meeting seems to be no business done. E. Cate - Clk. August 1st 1844 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - appointed Br. Joseph Gaut, Charles Elder, Ahaz W. Bryan, Michael Cate & Thomas Cate as deligates to the Baptist State Convention to be held with the Church at Mossy Creek, Jefferson County , East Tennessee. - 2nd. - Rec'd Evans Thomas by experience. E. Cate - Clk. September 7th 1844 - The Church met & after divine Service to business - 1st. - Rec'd Eli Hudson (p.153) by recantation - 2nd. - Rec'd Wm. Chambers by enrollment, Anna Chambers by expr. & Charlotta Chambers, Juliana H. Jones by enrollment - 3rd. - Dismissed by letter Thomas Ellison, Eli Hudson and his wife Sarah - 4th. - Appointed Joseph Gaut, Loftis Henry and Alfred Slover as our deligates to the next Association to be held with our Church. Elisha Cate - Clk. October 5th 1844 - The Association met and the introductory Sermon was delivered by Rev. J. S. Coram and the Association held her evening cession in the meeting house and on Saturday the Association retired & the Stand was filled by Elders Frost & Sers & on Sunday by Moore & Hains and the meeting was protracted till this day week inclusive and during the meeting Rec'd by expr. Abraham Slover, Elizabeth Slover, Louiza Patterson, R. J. Patterson, Hugh Henry, Elisha P. Cate, John Thomas, John J. Gaut, Mary J. November 1st. 1844 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up a charge against Br. Joseph Carmon & Young W. Moore & excluded them from the fellowship of the Church for absenting themselves from the Church for years and not lifting letters of Dis. - 2nd. - Took up a charge against Br. Lefferd Rollings for having committed fornication & refered it to the Church's Association. E. Cate - Clk. December 7th 1844 - We, the Church Committee having had Br. L. Rollings case under consideration & the brother giving the satisfaction for his iniquity as above charged - we feel bound to forgive him. E. Cate, C. Elder, Jesse Langston & Jos. Gaut and on the same day the Church met and after divine Service Rec'd the above report also Rec'd Cely Reneau by enrolment also granted Sarah J. Hickman a letter of dismission. E. Cate - Clerk January Meeting 1845 - The Church met - no business done. E. Cate - Clk. (p.155) February 1st 1845 - The Church met & after divine Service by C. C. Tipton proceded - 1st. - Chose Bro. Tipton Moderator as our former pastor or Moderator had died. - 2nd. - Resolved by the Church that the death of our beloved pastor be a matter of record - who departed this life the 25th day of January last - 3rd. - Chose Rev. C. C. Tipton as our pastor for the balance of the year - 4th. - Saline Bettis requested a letter of dismission & granted - 5th. - a charge alleged against Br. Valentine V. Hoozer for dancing at a frolick & the Church being satisfied Excluded him from the fellowship of the Church also a charge was brought forward by Charles Elder against Br. Lefferd Rollings for drinking too much Spirits or getting drunk and being satisfied of the offense excluded him also from the fellowship of the Church. The late Rev. James Langford Served us as pastor about 5 years for the years 1840 - $23.50, 1841 - $42.00, 1842 - $ 52.25, 1843 - $42.75, 1844 - $56.40 making in all $217.20. E. Cate - Clerk. March 1st 1845 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to buisness - 1st. - appointed our May term for our Communion Season - 2nd. - Appointed our next meeting to be on the last Saturday of this Inst. E. Cate - Clk. March 29th 1845 - The Church met according to appointment & after divine Service opened a door for the reception of members - Rec'd Sarah Langford, Elizabeth Langford & Mary Langford by letter - 2nd. - John Bettis requested a letter of dismission & granted. E. Cate - Clk. (p.156) April Meeting 1845 - no business appears of record. E. Cate - Clk. May 3rd 1845 - The Church met after divine Service proceded to business. - 1st. - Zebulin Gilbreth & wife Martha called for letters of dismission and is granted them. - 2nd. - Mary Z. Langford called for a letter of dismssion and it was granted her also Shadrach Manard and wife Elizibeth called for letters of dismission and it was granted. At night meeting Rec'd Sarah Lyle by expr. and on Sunday night Rec'd Emaline Edmonds by enrollment. E. Cate - Clk. June 7th 1845 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - appointed the fryday before the 3rd Saturday next for our Camp meeting. E. Cate - Clk. July 5th 1845 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - took up the charge against Br. Charles Elder for having accused Sister Sarah Cates of stealing of his grain at the Mill and telling it through the neigborhood - brought in by Br. Joseph Cates and by consent of the parties the following committee was chosen by the Church in the presents of the parties to settle the difficulty between them and report to the next meeting - The Comittee Bro. Joseph Gaut, Alfred Slover, Parnel Bales, H. V. Hoozer, Jesse Langston, D. L. Jones, R. H. Newman, Jas. L. Haggard & Loftis Henry. E. Cate - Clk. August 2nd 1845 - The Church met & after divine Service proceded to business & rec'd the report of the committee - the report is as follows - Viz. (p.157) We the undersigned being appointed by the Dumplin Creek Church do ajust the forgoying charge report as follows - Viz. - 1st. - We called upon Br. Elder & red the charge to which he plead guilty - we then called upon him to know if he had any further acknowledgments to make - he answered he had - that he had done rong by not goying to her, the Sister Cates in the first place as the bible required with this acknowledgment - we are willing to forgive - Joseph Gaut, Alfred Slover, Parnel Bales, Hugh V. Hoozer, Jesse Langston, R. N. Newman, Jas. L. Haggard. - 2nd - appointed Jas. L. Haggard, A. W. Bryan & Jas. Moore as our deligates to the General Assn. To be held with the Church at Cedar Grove, Blount County, Tennessee to commence on fryday before 2nd. Saturday of this Inst. - 3rd. - Br. Joseph Cates not being satisfied with the report of the Committee being convinced that the charge did not embrace what he intended be submitted to the report and obtained leave of the Church to renew his charge which is as follows Viz. August 2nd 1845 - A charge brought up by Br. Joseph Cates against Br. Charles Elder for slandering his wife & continuing to do so by telling that she had taken too much toll out of his grain when tending his Mill & converting it to their own use and after some investigation had upon Joseph Cates the subject the Church took up the charge appointed the same Committee to Viz. Joseph Gaut, Alfred Slover, Parnel Bales, H. V. Hoozer, Jesse Langston, R. N. Newman & Jas. L. Haggard - 4th. - the Church appointed the 14th inst. For to meet for purpose of settling the difficulty between them. E. Cate - Clerk. (p.158) August 14th 1845 - The Church met according to adjournment and after divine Service the Church met in order for business - 1st. - Br. Wm. Rogers was elected Clerk of Pro tem - 2nd. - the Committee previously appointed to investigate & decide the difficulty existing between Sis. Sarah Cates & Br. Charles Elder was called who reported as follows Viz. We, the undersigned Committee after having all the evidence on both sides believe Br. Elder gilty of sd. Charge as witness we hereunto sign our names - Joseph Gaut, Alfred Slover, Parnel Bales, Jas. L. Haggard, R. N. Newman, Hugh V. Hoozer & Jesse Langston. - 3rd. - The Church dismissed in order - Wm. Rogers - Clk. Pro-tem. September 19th 1845 - The Dumplin Camp meeting commenced at night and on the 20th the Church set in order to do business - 1st. - appointed Br. Charles Elder, Abraham Slover & Lea Cates - our deligates to the Tennessee Association to be held with the Church at the Rocky Valley commencing on fryday before the 1st. Saturday October next - 2nd. - on the 25th - Resolved by the Church that she protest against the conduct of Br. John Harris in coming to this Camp meeting peddling bred and offering to parties in the cause of Christ. (p.159) We, the undersigned hereby agreed to be reconciled to each other on the following terms. I, Charles Elder agree that I may have been mistaken as to the way I lost my grain and if so I am sorry that I accused Sister Sarah Cates of taking it. - 2nd. - We, Joseph Cates & Sarah Cates agree that we have done rong in speaking hard of the Church Committee & other members of the Church - 3rd. - We and each of us for the sake of the cause of Christ will cease further hostilities & work together for the peace & harmony of Zion. Signed: Charles Elder, Joseph Cates & Sarah Cates. - 4th. - Resolved that any member of this Church found gilty of saying or doing anything calculated to stir up the difficulty now settled between Charlie Elder & Joseph Cates & wife shall be considered guilty of having trespassed against the Church . - 5th. - Rec'd $556 1/4 in the treasury Churches money & paid one dollar for the printing of the Minutes - 6th. - Resolved by the Church that she disapprobates the making of ardent Spirits to the injury of Society - 7th. - Rec'd by experience Manervy Jones, Albert Moore, Rebecca E. Cates, Sarah A. Cates, Kizird Langston, Elijah E. Coons, David Jones, Nancy Jones-Pollard, Elizabeth Knight, John Linsey Jr., Wm. C.
