Jany. 6th 1855 - The Church met & after prayer as our pastor failed to come, proceed to business - 1st. Called Br. C. Elder to Chair - 2nd. layed over several references that was on docket and dismissed - E. Cate - Clk. Feby 3rd 1855 - The Church met and after Worship proceded to business - 1st. - took up the reference against Br. G. Kite and after a few remarks he was excluded from the fellowship of the Church for the above charge and not hereing the Church. (p.204) - 2nd. - Took up charge against D. R. Sasseen for the above charge and not hereing the Church and being absent he is excluded from the fellowship of the Church - 3rd. - Took up the case of K. Baley and layed it over till next meeting. E. Cate - C. Clk. March 3rd 1855 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - in the absence of our pastor Chose C. C. Tipton Moderator - 2nd. - took up the reference against Br. K. Baley & he still neglects attending Church meetings, notwithstanding he has been called upon for months to come - the Church discharged the first Committee and appoints J. N. Elder & Thos. G. Douglass as a Commitee to cite himagain to attend and let him know that if does not he will be excluded for not hearing the Church - Again the Church makes a call upon the Clerk to furnish the Church with a list of delinquent members such as has moved off without letters of dismission or has been absent for a year or more. E. Cate - Clk. (p.205) May 5th 1855 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. Took up reference against Br. Kindrick Baley and he still remains absent and called upon the Committee and Br. Douglass was absent and Br. J. N. Elder reports that he saw him and told him of the intention of the Church and the Committee was discharged and it appears from other proof that he was not providentiall hundered that he had gone to Dandridge with a barrel of whisky, therefore the Church excludes him from her fellowship -2- took up the rule of last meeting in regard to delinquent members and after some remarks the Church adopted the following preamble to as resolutions Viz Whereas some of the members of this Church have been absent from the Church for some considerable time and judging from their conduct that it is not their wish to continue in the Church - Resolved therefore that we give 3 months time for all members that has been absent from the Church for the term of three months past to come to Church in person or by some friend & make satisfaction for their neglect of duty - Resolved further that public notice be given of this resolution and should the delinquent fail to comply with the same, we shall take it as sufficient evidence that such persons do not wish to continue members and we shall procede at the expiration of three months to their Exclusion -3- It appears that Br. Wm. Alderson has been drinking too much Ardent Spirits and appoints Wm. French & D. L. Jones to talk to him and cite him to attend Church. (p.206) Monday 7th May 1855 - The meeting being continued on Monday & Br. W. Alderson came and after Service he was called upon and he came forward and confesed to have been gilty one time and he give the Church satisfaction, therefore he was released an the Committee discharged - again aplication was made for letters of dismission for Dr. James Perry and his wife Mary L. E. Cate - Clk. June 2nd. 1855 - The Church met & after divine ....... by Rev. N. Coram - no business and was dismissed. E. Cate - Clk. July 7th 1855 - The Church met & after divine Service C. M. Hodges request a letter of dismission and granted - E. Cate - Clk. August 4th 1855 - The Church met & after divine Service no business and dismissed. Sept 1st 1855 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. Under the rule adopted at our May meeting - 1st. - took up Sister Dorothy Cate and it appears the she many years ago without taking a letter of dismission, therefore the Church excludes her from fellowship -2- took up Emeline Edmonds and excludes her for neglecting Church meeting for years - (p.207) 3rd. took up John Lindsy and excludes him for not attending meeting for years -4- took the case of David Statem and wife and excludes them from the fellowship of the Church for absenting or neglecting Church meetings for a longer time -5th- Wm. Newman requested letters of dismission for himself and wife Mary -6- took up Jane & Isaac Brown and excluded them for the fellowship of the Church for neglecting Church meeting and unchristian conduct -7- took up James Morris and his wife Carline and excluded them from the fellowship of the Church for neglecting Church meeting -3- took up Thos. C. Sellers & Perry England and excluded them from the fellowship of the Church for going off without letters of dismission for a long time -9- took up the case of Mary Underwood and excluded her from the fellowship of the Church for joining the Methodist E. Society - E. Cate - Clk. September 21st 1855 - Our Camp meeting commenced and on Monday night Em. C. French requested a letter of dismission - granted and the meeting continued till Sunday night week and Rec'd by baptism Columbus C. Cate, W. H. Cates, Porter Carmichael, Lucindy Baley, Mary Douglass, Margaret Douglass, Alex. P. Duke, Martha A. Willson, Thirsa E. Elder and approved for baptism. This ends our Camp meeting. E. Cate - Clk. November 3rd 1855 - The Church met and after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - Opened a door for the reception of members - none offered - 2nd. - Granville Newman requested letters of dismission for himself and wife Barsheba, also Wm. Alderson and John Brown requested letters and granted. (p.208) December 1st 1855 - The Church met and as our pastor was absent - no business done on Sunday - Rec'd Chambers by baptism. E. Cate - Clk. January 5th 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - as our pastor was absent chose Elder John Quarrel Moderator - 2nd. - Opened a door for the reception of members - 3rd. - appointed D. L. Jones house-keeper for this year - 4th. - Jesse Douglas our treasury made his report for last year and rec'd and continued him for another year - 5th. - Whereas Parson Hubbs recently pretended to speak on the revision of the Scriptures at this place & Elder C. C. Tipton met him here and politely asked him to divide the time with him, the said Tipton, which the sd. Hubbs refused to do - Therefore Resolved that Elder C. C. Tipton is requested as soon as it may be convenient for him to do so - to reply and invite the said Hobbs to come and here him as he expressed some fears about his taking down the nots correctly. Elisha Cate February 2nd 1856 - The Church met & after divine Service - no business and was dismissed. E. Cate - C. Clk. March 1st 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service no business - was dismissed on Sunday. Rec'd Eliz. Lunceford by letter. E. Cates - Clk. April 5th 1856 - The Church met & after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - (p.209) Rec'd by letter Sarah Runyan, Elizabeth Runyan, Susannah Runyan and Martha Runyan - 2nd. - Appointed R. R. Bryan, Michael Cate & Charles Elder to adopt or arrange some rules for the transaction of the business of the Church for the future. Elisha Cate - Clk. May 3rd 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - 1st. - Opened the door for the reception of members and rec'd by letter Alex. Brooks and his wife Elizabeth, Thomas Brooks, Susan Brooks, Carline Brooks, Margaret Brooks & Samuel Brooks. The reference of last meeting in regard to the Committee of arrangements to arrange some rules by which the Church should procede in business - laid over till next meeting. E. Cate - Ch. Clk. June 7th 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service by Elder - 1st. - opened the doors for the reception of members and rec'd by letter John Drinning, Elizabeth Drinning, Nancy Drinning, Sarah Drinning, Mary J. Drinning, W. L. Drinning..... - 2nd. - John Lowery and Sarah his wife requested letters of dismission and granted - 3rd. - the reference of last meeting in regard to the order of business laid over till next meeting - 4th. - Took up a charge against Isaac V. Hoozer for playing cards and other immoral conduct and appointed Wm. French & to cite him to attend our next meeting. E. Cate - Clk. (p.210) July 5th 1856 - The Church met & after divine Service procede to business - 1st. - opened a door for the reception of members & rec'd Joab Travillian and his wife Elizabeth by letter - 2nd. - took up the reference concerning the order of business and after some investigation the Church rejected the order that was presented - 3rd. - Took up the charge of last meeting against Br. Isaac V. Hoozer and Br. Wm. French, one of the Committee appointed to cite him to attend the Church went to see him but left word and he failed to come and the charge was sustained ie. he was guilty of playing cards and immoral conduct such as drinking and fiddling about his house, Therefore he is excluded from the fellowship of the Church. E. Cate - C. Clk. August 2nd 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service by Elder N. Coram Proceded to business - 1st. -opened the door for the reception of members and rec'd John Gaut by letter and was dismissed till meeting in Course. E. Cate - C. Clk. September 6th 1856 - The Church met and no business was dismissed. On Sunday D. Manard requested letters of Dismission for himself and Daughter Rebecca and granted also Joab Travillian & his wife Elizabeth requested letters of Dismission & granted. E. Cate - Clk. (p.211) September 20th 1856 - it being Camp meeting The Church met & after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - Appointed M. Cate, E. Miller & JohnDrinning as deligats to the Tennessee Association to be held at the Mount of Olives, Knox Co., Tenn. - 2nd. - Appointed Br. Charles Elder, J. Cate and A. J. Newman as our deligats to the General Association to be at Zion Hill Church, McMinn Co., Tenn. - 3rd. - Cinthy White requested a letter of dismission and J. W. Bryan treasury - 21st. - Prudence Curry, Eliz. Curry, H. C. Curry requested letters of dismission and it was granted. E. Cate - Clk. December 3rd 1856 - The Church met and after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - Opened the door for the reception of members and none offered - 2nd. - Allowed C. Elder & T. Cate 50 cts. Each for fixing the house and putting some sash in the windows to be paid out of the treasury - 3rd. - Allowed H. Miller 20 cents for getting a piece of stove pipe to be paid out of the treasury (p.212) - 4th. - D. L. Jones house-keeper informs the Church that he be allowed two dollars and fifty cents for his services to be paid out of the treasury - 5th. - Appointed C. Elder housekeeper for the ensuing year and he is to in addition to what was heretofore been done is to take care of the seats in the shed to furnish straw when necessary and candles including two lbs. of tallow and to clean out the shed when necessary for which he is to have five dollars to be paid out of the treasury - 6th. - The Church took up a charge against Jesse Overbay for leaving his wife and appointed Br. Lea Cate to cite him to our next meeting - 7th. - also took up a charge against Eliz. J. Taylor for having an illegitimate child and the charge being sustained - then the Church proceeded to exclude her from the fellowship of the Church. E. Cate - Clk. January 3rd 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service proceed to business - 1st. - As our pastor was absent Chose Elder N. Cate Moderator - 2nd. - took up the reference of last meeting against Jesse Overbay and Bro. Lea Cate failed to notify him and he, the said Overbay was absent - Ordered that it be laid over till next meeting and that Br. T. Bryan Sr. should be added to the convention on Sunday - Elizabeth & Malciny Willhite requested letters of dismission & granted. E. Cate - Clk. (p.213) February 1st, Saturday, 1857 - And after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - as our custom is opened a door for the reception of members - none offered - 2nd. - took up the case of Br. Overby and after a partial investigation the case was laid over till next meeting. E. Cate - Church Clk. March, 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service proceeded to business - none offered to join - took up the case of Br. Jesse Overbey and it was reported that he was not able to attend the case - was laid over till next meeting. E. Cate - Church Clk. April 4th 1857 - The Church met & after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - opened a door for the reception of members none offered - 2nd. - took up the reference against Jesse Overbey for leaving his wife and could not be prevailed with or got to agree to live with her again - therefore the Church excludes him from the fellowship - 3rd. - requested our pastor to write out the Sermon that he delivered at this place on the 1st Sabbath in March last & appointed Thos. Cate, J. W. Elder, D. L. Jones & Thos. C. Bryan our Committee to confer with Eler J. S. Coram upon the subject and raise subscription to pay the printing of the same. Elisha Cate - Clk. May the 1st Saturday 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service - no business and was dismissed. E. Cate - Clk. June 6th 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - opened a door for the reception of members by letter Jane Naugher, Rebecca Naugher, Margaret & Nancy Naugher. (p.214) July 4th 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - opened a door for the Reception of members &c. - 2nd. - Harriet Parker requested a letter of dismission and granted. E. Cate, C. C. August 1st 1857 - The Church met & after divine Service opened a door for the reception of members - none offered - appointed J.W. Elder and G.W. Cate the Churches Agents to raise money for the General Association - P.S. - Malvina Chambers and Jane Chambers request letters of dismission & granted. E.C. - C. C. September 5th 1857 - The Church met & after divine Service proceded to business - 1st. - after opening a door for the reception of members Rec'd Rebecca Randolph by letter - 2nd. - Appointed Thos. Cate, T. G. Douglas & J. W. Elder deligates to the General Assembly to be held at Mossy Creek , Jefferson County, Tenn. - 3rd. - Appointed M. Cate, C. Elder & G. W. Cate delligates to the Tenn. Association to be held at Central Camp Ground, Sevier County, Tenn. - 4th. - Resolved to make an effort to build a new Church and Thos. Cate, Thos. Bryan, J. W. Elder, Charles Elder, Henry Miller, Lefferd French, Wm. French, Joseph Cate, D. L. Jones, (p.215) Ahaz Bryan & T. G. Douglass as her Committee to procure a cite to build and take up subscription for the same, also appointed our Sacramental meeting in Nov. Term and called Elder by Minett, N. Coram & John Quarrel to attend the same on Sunday - enrold Ellener Newman and at her request granted her a letter of dismission - E. Cate - Church Clerk. November 7th 1857 - The Church met and after divine Service by Elder Cate, as our pastor was absent opened a door for the reception of members & Rec'd by letter Rhoten Carmen, Sarah Carmen & Mary Large and the meeting was protracted till Tuesday week and rec'd Mary Sellers, Martha Cate, Adaline Tippet, Martharine French, Elizabeth Brooks, John Baly, Richard Langford, Noah Cate by baptism. E. Cate - C. Clk. December 5th 1857 - The Church met & after divine Service by Elder W. Ellis proceeded to business - 1st. - Rec'd Nancy Sellers and Susannah Brooks by Baptism - 2nd. - Took into futher consideration the building of a new Church house and appointed Thomas Bryan, Michael Cate, Lafferd French, John M. Elder and Thos. G. Douglass the Churches building Committee and three of which may constitute a quorum to transact any business in the building of sd. house and they be instructed not to let out the building to the lowest bidders without regard to the work being well done.
