The Jefferson County Genealogy & History
Web site is committed to providing free access to all available on-line
resources for Jefferson County researchers. This project is constantly
looking for new resources that can be placed on-line, but in order
to do that,
we need volunteers.
"How can you be part of this fantastic opportunity?" you
ask. We have ways <wink>.
Below we've listed just a few of the projects with which
you could be involved. Maybe you've got an idea for a
making other records available on this site, or you are interested in
working on one
of these projects. Whatever
your interest, please e-mail
the Webmistress.
Abstracting
Old E-Mail Messages
- Right now, we need someone(s) to go through old postings
to e-mail discussion lists and message boards to find Web site links,
resources, and similar items that should be linked from here. We'll
send you the files by e-mail, along with instructions on how to accomplish
the review and return the items you select. We also have several
messages posted to an old message board system that need to be reviewed
and, if not on the current queries board, input.
19th
Century Newspaper Indexing
- We hope to put an every-name index to existing
Jefferson County newspapers on-line as a searchable database. We
can provide you with photocopies of newspapers from which to work. You
need to have access to a spreadsheet program or know how to use
tables in a wordprocessor.
Census
Transcriptions
- Volunteers are needed to transcribe 1860 and 1870
federal census records. The USGenWeb Census Project is sponsoring
this activity.
Cemetery
Transcriptions
- Even though the cemeteries in Jefferson County
have been transcribed and published, we can't type directly from
those volumes. In order to qualify for this site, transcriptions
must be original work. Have you transcribed one of the cemeteries
in the county? Do
you live in the county and are willing to do a transcription?
Church
Records Transcriptions
- Have you transcribed records from any of the churches
in the county? Do you live in the county and are willing to
do a transcription? Do you have access to microfilmed records
through your local library's interlibrary loan department or the
LDS Family History Centre nearest you? Even partial transcriptions
(i. e., all entries for a surname, or all entries for a specific
time period)
are helpful.
Lyle's
Bible Records Transcriptions
- W. A. Lyle transcribed hundreds of Bible records
in Jefferson County before 1930. Untold numbers of them are
now lost. Can you help us put these transcriptions on-line
for all visitors to view?
Personal
Communications Transcriptions
- Did your ancestors leave letters, diaries, or
memoirs you can transcribe?
Historic
Photographs
- Do you have photos of buildings, locations, or
events that would be of interest to other researchers?
